Striation – Bob Crewe
Mixed Media on Canvas
Artwork – 30“w x 24“h
Modern American artist Bob Crewe, 1930 -2014, was born in Newark and raised in Belleville, New Jersey. He attended Parsons School of Art in New York City where he developed a passion for music, painting, and sculpture. In the 1950’s, Bob was introduced to Andy Warhol who was impressed with his “edgy” work and arranged a show for him at the Bodley Gallery. Reviews were strong, and interest was high, giving Crewe a new level of artistic respect and influence. Crewe’s career continued gain momentum with his works being included in galleries and collections around the world. This piece signed by the artist and titled “Striation” is a bold textural mixed media work created by Crewe in 1994. It has extraordinary depth and movement with an almost optical illusion effect. Crewe chose to mount this piece on a one-inch black frame hidden behind the canvas which gives the work an additional subtle complexity. We think this is a fantastic opportunity to own a unique timeless piece executed by a great American artist discovered by Andy Warhol that will only appreciate in value.
