Gunnar Erman – 1932-2018
Acrylic on Canvas
Overall - 50”w x 40”h
A spectacular work by listed artist Gunnar Erman. Erman was a Swedish American painter born in Sweden in 1932. He studied under some of Sweden’s foremost artists including Bestil Landelius and Franz Lundberg. He painted both abstract and surreal figurative works, often with bold colors. His work is in many private and public collections in Sweden and Denmark, in addition to the U.S. The piece is signed by the artist but carries no date. Our research suggests it was painted in the late 20thcentury. It has a great deal of depth as Gunnar chose to highlight sections with thick swaths of acrylic. There does appear to be a quarter inch repair on the back of the painting but it’s in an inconspicuous place on the lower left of the canvas and does not affect the appearance. To Erman collectors, this is an exceptional find. With his passing in 2018, it should only increase in value. We found smaller less dramatic works selling for $2,000+.
