Barbara Weir was born in 1945 in rural Australia. As a mixed-race Aboriginal girl, she was abducted by the Australian authorities and placed in foster homes when she was 9. She became a painter in 1989 at age 45. She has been exhibited widely in her native Australia, as well as Paris, New York, Singapore, Switzerland, Germany and elsewhere. Her paintings are in museums and collections worldwide. Prices for her artwork range from $600 for very small pieces to $25,000 for larger ones. This piece from 2012 entitled “Grass Seeds” is from her Grass Seeds Dreaming series. It is spectacularly framed under museum glass to prevent fading.
